Taiwan Adventist Hospital

Direct Billing Service for Privately Insured Patients

A Benefit & Value-Added Service to Our Patients

Hospital visits have become one of the stress burdens for people nowadays. Wasting precious time on queuing up in line, figuring out complicated procedures and, dealing with a language barrier – these difficulities can easily wear people out, and become even more of a burden when you are not feeling well.

As a medical provider, we understand very well how weary and complicated it can be to collect numerous medical papers and fill out claim forms in order to be reimbursed from your insurance company after a hospital visit.

Direct billing is an arrangement between a medical provider and insurance company, where the medical provider sends the receipt for services directly to the patient's insurance company. It eliminates the financial burden and allows plan members to seek the help and care they need when they need it.

Taiwan Adventist Hospital has joined the provider network with over 40 international leading insurance companies providing the eligible insured the most convenient and efficient direct billing service. The eligible insured typically end up paying for the portion of the service not covered by their insurance plan. This saves them valuable time and upfront costs as they do not have to submit claims and wait for payments to arrive.

If you are a member of our contracted partners, please notify us and/or your insurance company when scheduling an appointment in order that we can make necessary coverage verification and preparation before your arrival.

How Does Direct Billing (Direct Payment) Services Process

It’s very important that you approach your outpatient visit/admission to hospital well-informed of the financial consequence. It is also important for you to familiarize yourself with the terms of your insurance coverage. It will help you understand the
hospital billing procedure and charges.

Please read the following information and contact us if you have any questions about direct payment or participating insurance companies.

  1. Prior to outpatient appointment/admission, you should confirm with your insurance carrier the following:
    1. Am I able to use my insurance/police for Direct Billing service at Taiwan Adventist Hospital?
    2. Does my policy cover me for this procedure?
    3. Do I have an "excess" payment on my insurance policy?
    4. Are there any co-payments required?
    5. Does my policy exclude any treatments, for example Lasik correction, hearing aids, dental treatment, rehabilitation, or infertility?
    6. Are any prosthetic or disposable items used in the surgery not covered by my insurance?
  2. The process of an outpatient visit/elective surgery/procedure under direct billing arrangement as following:
    1. Prior to your appointment/admission/procedure, please contact your insurance company for a Letter of Guarantee (LOG), Guarantee of Payment (GOP) or L Letter of Authorization (LOA) to be issued.
    2. Please bring along the following documents when coming for the scheduled admission/appointment/procedure:
      ❶ LOG / GOP / LOA
      ❷ Membership Card
❸ Medical Claim Form (if any).
    3. During the hospitalization, you will be required to:
❶ Fill up the relevant portions and endorse on the Billing Statement & Medical Claim Form.
❷ Endorse on the Consent to Pay for Non-Covered Services for the payment of deductibles, non-coverage items (ex. laundry, telephone bills, etc) and co-payments.
    4. In case of emergency, or if you do not have a LOG or GOP upon appointment/ admission, Taiwan Adventist Hospital will assist in contacting your insurance company.  If we do not receive the necessary documents or confirmation by the time of discharge, you will be required to settle the payments, then file the claim on your own.
    5. As a service to our customers, we will inform your insurance carrier based on the information you provide at the time of registration.  It is very important for you to provide all related information such as policy number, group number and contactinformation for your insurance company.
    6. If your insurance company does not yet have a direct billing arrangement with Taiwan Adventist Hospital, the extension of direct billing arrangement will not beprovided.  You may be required to make payments upon discharge, then submit the claim on your own.

Up-front Payment

Our hospital's practice is to collect all known fees when you discharge, including deductibles, co-payments and co-insurance. We base these fees on estimated charges for the service you are receiving. Your final bill may be higher or lower than the estimates we use at registration, once we confirm the actual services provided during your visit.

  1. Why am I getting a bill now, when services were provided so long ago?
Taiwan Adventist Hospital will process and send a bill to a patient after payment is received from the insurance carrier and it is confirmed that the balance is owed by the patient. The length of this process depends on how long it takes to receive a response from your insurance carrier.
  2. Why did I receive a bill if I have insurance coverage?
You will receive a patient responsibility statement after your insurance processes our bill. The amount you are billed for is based on what your insurance communicates to us on an explanation of benefits (EOB). The EOB details how your insurance processed our bill and calculated your responsibility based on your individual insurance plan. If you believe your responsibility is not correct, please contact
    your insurer directly.

Billing Rights and Obligations

Not all medical costs are covered by insurance. At Taiwan Adventist Hospital, we are committed to providing high quality, personalized health care services to all of our patients, and we make every effort to see that you are billed correctly. Your final bill will reflect the actual cost of care minus any insurance payment received and/or payment made at the time of your visit. All charges not covered by your insurance are your responsibility.

It is important to remember that health insurance coverage varies and some services may not be covered. Co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles and non-covered
services will be your responsibility according to your health insurance coverage.

Patient Responsibility for Non-Covered Services

  1. Taiwan Adventist Hospital is responsible for submitting bills to your insurance company and will do everything possible to expedite your claim. You must pay the full amount or any outstanding balance if your insurer does not cover the cost of treatment.
  2. In some cases, your insurance may not cover certain services or may have coverage limit in place. Limited coverage on routine, preventive healthcare is common among insurance plans.
  3. For this reason, we may request payment for any known, non-covered services at the time of your visit; otherwise they will be billed to you at a later date.
  4. It is very import to remember your policy is a contract between you and your insurance company and you have the final responsibility for payment of your hospital bill.  If you have questions or concerns about your insurance coverage, please contact your insurance company directly.
