Visit of the Guam Legislature Delegation to the Hospital

2023-09-07

To strengthen bilateral medical cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and the United States, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of North American Affairs arranged for a delegation from the Guam Legislature to visit our hospital. Their objective was to understand our hospital’s healthcare collaboration with Guam and the current status of medical referral services.

Led by Vice Speaker Tina Muña Barnes, eight delegates from the Guam Legislature visited our hospital on September 7, 2023. They received a warm welcome from Hospital President Dr. Hui-Ting Huang, Senior VP for Administration Dr. Hei-Jen Jou, Medical Affairs Director and International Health Care CEO Dr. Leonard S. Chueh, and International Priority Care Center Director Dr. Jonathan Tepeng Tseng. This marked Vice Speaker Barnes’ second visit to our hospital, her first being in June 2019.

Dr. Huang emphasized our hospital’s commitment to fostering international medical exchanges and collaboration with Guam and the Oceania region. In January 2020, he led a delegation to the Guam Legislature, where, in the presence of then-Speaker Barnes and ROC Overseas Community Affairs Council Minister Ms. Lily Wu, a Memorandum of Understanding on medical cooperation was signed with the Guam Memorial Hospital. Dr. Huang sees Vice Speaker Barnes’ return visit as an opportunity to strengthen our partnership and explore more cooperative possibilities.

During the visit, our hospital’s team presented an overview of our institution and future plans. We aim to enhance medical services for their patients with support from the Guam government.

Vice Speaker Barnes acknowledged our hospital’s outstanding medical services and international community welfare contributions. She expressed a desire for ongoing collaboration to improve healthcare standards and promote further medical exchanges between Guam and Taiwan.
