Our CT scanner is a helical system that allows three-dimensional imaging. The CT scanner uses x-rays that pass through the body to create computerized images of bones and organs.
The patient lies on the table, and x-ray equipment surrounds the part of the body to be examined. A soft "machinery" sound is heard as the x-ray tube moves around the patient.
This 30- to 45-minute exam requires you to remain motionless during each x-ray exposure.
Depending on the exam that is requested, you may also be given an oral (a drink by mouth) and/or intravenous contrast material (a liquid that shows up on x-rays).
Preparation
All age groups: Nothing pass mouth except medication four hours before the exam.
Sedation: If your child requires sedation, the nurses will contact you and ask you to arrive an hour and a half before the appointment.
